Looking for Things to do in Boston for St. Patrick’s Day? Come celebrate this joyous holiday with fellow Boston Visitors and Boston residents at the Boston St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

History of the Boston St. Patrick’s Day Parade:
In March of 1776, General John Henry Knox took the 55 cannons captured at Fort Ticonderoga and placed them on Dorchester Heights. He and his men had also cut down trees from the area to “cannon size,” and hallowed them out to look like cannons.

On March 17, 1776, orders were given that anyone who wished to pass through the continental lines had to give the password “St. Patrick.” The British saw all of the cannons on the lines and left Boston.

The Boston St. Patrick’s Day Parade commemorates this historic time in Boston and in the history of the United States, and has since given Boston Visitors and residents one of the most enjoyable Events in Boston of the entire year, complete with marching bands, decorative floats, and revered guests. John F. Kennedy, America’s 35th President, even walked the route of the Boston St. Patrick’s Day Parade.

Since 1804, South Boston residents have celebrated their heritage with a huge cultural parade, which is a spectacle unlike any other in Boston.
