The tragic events that unfolded at the 2013 Boston Marathon inspired the slogan “Boston Strong.” In 2014, runners and spectators will head back to this Event to show the strength of the city and of the people who love it. Record crowds are expected for this Boston Event.
The very first Boston Marathon had just 18 runners. Today, more than 20,000 people run the 26.2 mile route through the streets of Boston while a half a million spectators cheer them on.
The Boston Marathon requires impressive qualifying times in order to participate, but those running with a group for charity are not required to meet the qualifying times. While running in this marathon, which is the second oldest footrace in the country, is an impressive feat, many more are happy to line the route to cheer on the runners.
Even the Red Sox get in on the fun by playing a home game on Boston Marathon day. They start the game early, at 11:05 a.m., so that it will end just about the time that the runners will approach Kenmore Square. The fans spill out of Fenway Park just in time to see the runners approach the final mile of the race.
