Explore the Freedom Trail
The Freedom Trail is a 2.5 mile route on which 16 of Boston’s most important historical sites are located. While guided tours of the Freedom Trail are available for a reasonable fee, many guests at our Boston Hotel opt for a self-guided tour instead. Some of the stops along the Freedom Trail require an admission fee, but many, such as the Bunker Hill Monument and USS Constitution, are free.
Walk the Sugar Bowl
South Boston’s Castle Island is a wonderful place to spend a warm, summer’s day. The Sugar Bowl is a prominent feature of Castle Island. A spit of land juts out over the bay and provides a beautiful place for a run or a leisurely stroll. Be sure to stop by Sullivan’s for a lobster roll, ice cream cone, or frappe after your walk.
Watch the Fireworks
The July 4th celebration that takes place along the Charles River includes music by the Boston Pops Orchestra and one of the best fireworks displays in the country. Get there early to stake out the best spots, and enjoy a free concert and amazing fireworks display.
See the Sand Sculptures
Revere Beach, located about 5 miles from our Boston Hotel, is home to a fabulous sand sculpting competition that takes place each July. The 2014 Event is set for July 18th to July 20th. Stop by the day before the competition to see the artists at work. On the day of the judging, visitors have the chance to cast their vote to determine which of the amazing creations will win the crowd’s choice award. Free sand sculpting lessons and fireworks are also part of this fun, free Boston Thing to Do!
Watch Free Family Movies
Make the most of the summer weather by enjoying free, outdoor screenings of family favorites such as The Lorax, Brave, and many others. Showings are each Saturday starting July 6th, and films begin at sundown. The rain date for each screening is the following Wednesday. Screenings take place at the Prudential Center South Garden.
