About the Museum of Science:
Guests at Boston Hotels often have the Museum of Science on their list of can’t-miss Boston Attractions. The Museum of Science had its origins in the mid-19th century, but it took up residence in its current form and location in 1951. It opened as the first Museum of its kind in the country, and it continues to draw throngs of visitors who come to learn from and experience the more than 700 interactive exhibits.
Visitors do not necessarily need to be science lovers to enjoy a visit to this Attraction. More than 1.5 million visitors come through the doors each year, and there is something to interest visitors of all ages. In addition to the permanent exhibits, the Museum of Science often hosts temporary exhibits such as those based on a hit movie like Star Wars of Harry Potter.
Love wildlife? More than 100 animals are housed here, and most have been rescued and then rehabilitated. Visitors will also see many fine taxidermy examples of various species. Learn about space travel, dinosaurs, the human body, computer science and much more during your visit to the Museum of Science.
General admission includes all of the exhibit halls, but you can also opt to add on a visit to the Haydn Planetarium or the Mugar Omni Theatre where IMAX movies are shown on a huge screen. A 4D Theatre will be a brand new addition to the Museum, and is scheduled to open in the summer of 2014.
Should you get hungry during your visit you can stop into the Riverview Café. Enjoy a quick meal and lovely views of the Charles River. While parking is available at the Museum of Science, many visitors prefer the convenience of taking the train. A train stop, Science Park, is just a short walk from this Boston Attraction.
