The Institute for Advanced Theater Training at Harvard was created in 1987 by the American Repertory Theater (A.R.T.) as a way to train youth and amateur thespians for professional American theater.

In the summer of 1998, the Institute joined forces with the Moscow Art Theater (MXAT) School and commenced a historic program that would engage students with invaluable resources. First and foremost, A.R.T./MXAT wanted their partnership to provide students with opportunity for training and growth at a level that was unmatched in any other part of the country.

The core studies at A.R.T./MXAT include a rigorous 2-year, 5-semester schedule of training in acting, voice pedagogy, or dramaturgy. During this time students work closely with professionals at the A.R.T. and MXAT schools to perfect their skills and unleash their talent at Boston Events like concerts.

Some of the best teachers from the United States and Russia mentor and teach the students, who receive a Certificate of Achievement from A.R.T. and a M.F.A. degree from MXAT.
