From Our Blog
Our city loves to celebrate the holidays, and outside our front door is some of the best shopping in Boston. Whether you’re looking for local treasures or global brands, here are some suggestions to help you get in touch with your inner elf.
This eight-block long stretch of retail heaven starts at the Public Garden. Begin your stroll at Chanel and Valentino where French and Italian couture calls. If you’re shopping for the aspiring athlete, continue down Newbury Street to Athleta or Nike. The Fairy Shop invites you to explore the wonderful world of wizards and all things Harry Potter, while the end of Newbury Street is home to UNIQLO and Urban Outfitters. It’s a Boston shopping street with something for everyone.
When it’s time to relax and strategize which store to visit next, take a detour at Clarendon Street. Just off Newbury is the tempting warmth of L.A. Burdick, where hot chocolate and other delights await.
Beacon Hill in December is indescribably charming. Stroll across the Public Garden and up Charles Street, and you step into a neighborhood where Charles Dickens would feel at home. With the centuries-old homes and independent shops, it’s a destination for those who love to discover the one-of-a-kind.
Not surprisingly, with its rich history, the five-plus blocks of Charles Street are dotted with antique stores, as well as shops dedicated to art, books, vintage treasures and other one-of-a-kind items. If you’re looking for that special something for the person who has everything, Charles Street is your destination.
Throughout December, the city’s craft markets spring to life. Below is a sampling of some of the most distinct places for Christmas shopping in Boston.
Boston Public Market located on Hanover Street is a year-round destination for local foods and gifts. Come December, it evolves into the Holiday Creator Market. This expansive, indoor market hosts 30 artisans and food producers, all with something unique to offer. If you have a foodie on your list, then you will be sure to satisfy their craving with one of the select items available here.
The Winter Holiday Market at Snowport is back this year and bigger than ever. In addition to many fun activities and events, this outdoor market located at Boston’s Seaport, welcomes more than 100 retailers with special items such as jewelry, gifts for the home, art, clothing and more. Add in the food, craft beer and hot chocolate to enjoy, and it’s a wonderfully seasonal way to pick up some inspiration to go under the tree this year.
Harvard Square’s Holiday Fairs have been anticipated events for more than three decades. Located across the Charles River in Cambridge, this fair is both curated and juried. Over the three weekends preceding Christmas, the fair is filled with vendors from the region, as well as around the world. From pottery to candles, West African art to photography, this holiday event is ideal for browsing, buying and enjoying. The fair runs Fridays through Sundays, at 33 Dunster Street.
And if you want to shop really locally, you don’t even need to leave Boston Park Plaza. That special present for a photographer is just steps from our front door at the Boston Leica store. The heritage of this renowned brand means a gift from Leica will capture memories for decades to come.
If there is a golfer on your list, then consider a gift certificate to the only TopGolf location in Boston, here at Boston Park Plaza. Whether the aspiring scratch handicapper is looking for club and ball data to improve their swing or to play some of the world’s most storied courses, virtually, it’s a gift for pursuing their love of the game.
And when it’s time to enjoy a holiday dinner at one of the best restaurants in Back Bay Boston, Strega Italiano awaits just off our lobby. Unapologetically Italian, it’s an exceptional option for a gift card or a memorable meal with someone special.
However you choose to spend the holidays, we wish you and your family the best of the season.
