From Our Blog
Boston offers visitors acres of green space and a wide array of public parks, which makes it a great city for spreading out and enjoying the fresh air and picturesque scenery. There are several spots in to set up a picnic and enjoy a nice summer day. So grab your basket of bites and a blanket, and take a stroll to one of these spots in the city.
Take the Arthur Fiedler Footbridge, just a short walk from our hotel, and end up on the Charles River Esplanade. On a hot summer day, the river breeze is a nice way to cool off by the water without having to trek to a far-away beach. After your picnic, stay close by and take a stroll along the river, lined with beautiful trees and flowers—and check out the view of Cambridge, our neighbor across the river. Families will enjoy the playgrounds and splashpads for cooling off.
Boston Common hotels are conveniently located in the heart of the city. The Boston Common, the oldest public park in the United States, has been an ideal picnic spot for centuries thanks to its central location. Pick up some sandwiches and a cold drink on your way and enjoy an urban park with a neighborhood feel—something that isn’t always easy to find. Set a blanket down on a rolling hill of green grass, and enjoy the vibrant city scenes in an area steeped in history.
Take a short trip out of the city and visit the Boston Harbor Islands, the largest recreational outdoor space in Eastern Massachusetts. This National Park area is made up of eight public access islands, including Georges Island and Spectacle Island. Spectacle Island, located 20 minutes from Boston via ferry, is the perfect destination to hike, swim, or have a picnic at the beach during the summer.
Once you select your perfect picnic location, visit the hotel’s restaurant, Off The Common, to make arrangements for one of its Boston Park Plaza Picnics. Whether you’re looking for a quick bite or something more elaborate, the menu will please every palate.
