The Red Sox are back at Fenway

baseball game

Spring has arrived and thankfully, so has baseball. For the Boston Red Sox, opening day 2022 at Fenway is April 15th when they welcome the Minnesota Twins for a four-game series. In Boston, the Red Sox home opener is the unofficial first day of spring. Patios open up, the blossoms are on the trees and hope springs eternal that the boys of summer will bring another World Series back to our city.

Fenway Park, known as America’s Most Beloved Ballpark, is one of the jewels of Major League Baseball, if not the entire sports world. It is a must visit destination when you come to Boston, for ardent and casual fans alike. The ambience, the storied, Fenway Park history, and the rhythm of the game of baseball add up to a quintessential American experience.

Boston Park Plaza is one of the best hotels near Fenway Park. Located just off Boston Common, our property is one block away from Arlington Station and the popular T-Line (Boston’s subway). The short, 10-minute train ride to Fenway means you will be in your seats with plenty of time to spare. Visit our Concierge Desk for information on other transportation options and some great suggestions on where to go for a delicious pre-game meal.

Fenway Park history dates back to 1912 and like many classic ballparks, it was built on an asymmetric piece of land, resulting in some unusual field dimensions. The odd-shaped Fenway center field is 420 feet from home plate, the deepest of all major league ball parks.

Over the years, fans at Fenway have witnessed many of baseball’s most iconic moments. In 1919, The Red Sox sold Babe ‘The Bambino’ Ruth to their arch-rival New York Yankees. With the Red Sox, Ruth led his team to three World Series titles. After he left, the Red Sox struggled to win a championship and the ‘Curse of the Bambino’ was born. The team finally vanquished the ghost of Babe Ruth in 2004 and won the title again in 2007, 2013, and 2018.

If you arrive to the ballpark early, look out to deep-right center field. In section 42, row 37, there is one seat (21) that has been painted red in a sea of green. It marks the landing spot of the longest homerun ever recorded in Fenway. The shot measured 502 feet, hit by the legendary Ted Williams, one of baseball’s all-time greats.

Baseball is an institution in our city, and Boston Park Plaza, long known as Boston’s Most Beloved hotel is the perfect home base for any baseball fan.
